Jury rights outreach – Brentwood (5/2/16)

Today was the first day of selection for the May group of jurors at the Rockingham County Court in Brentwood, NH.  I was there to greet all of these new faces and to hand out jury nullification information.

IMG_6118Jury nullification is where a jury decides not to convict a defendant because applying the law in that case would yield an unjust result. Activists inform jurors of their right to nullify bad laws by distributing informative pamphlets.

Since this was the first week of this round, there was a large number of people arriving at the courthouse.  Almost every potential juror passing me had their summons papers in hand and all politely accepted a pamphlet.  One defense lawyer who I have seen from time to time asked for another pamphlet as he entered the court and smiled at me.  In total, 103 new people accepted a flyer.
