Jury Rights Outreach – Brentwood (10/17/16)

14786951_1051200261645489_1965183651_oToday marked the largest activism turnout at the Rockingham County Court in Brentwood, NH for jury nullification outreach with 4 local seacoast activists showing up to hand out pamphlets! The activists included Emmy Anderson, Derrick J Freeman, Kyle Mohney, and BJ Mumford.  This was also the first day (typically the busiest day) of the 4 week mid-October to mid-November jury selection group so the extra support was much appreciated.

Jury nullification is where a jury decides not to convict a defendant because applying the law in that case would yield an unjust result. Activists inform jurors of their right to nullify bad laws by distributing informative pamphlets.14724118_1051200121645503_1707334855_o

Out of all the passersby, only a handful refused to accept a pamphlet and in total 131 were handed out.  Of course, Emmy also had a stack of pocket constitutions and managed to hand out 7 to jurors and court workers alike.  Derrick participated at this courthouse for the first time and definitely came in style.  His ensemble made him look like he could have been one of the lawyers and belonged at the court.  I may take a cue from him and step it up a notch to see if more formal clothes fosters more engagement from the jurors in the following weeks.  All in all, it was a great morning for some liberty activism!

This selection group will be reporting again next Monday at 10AM so come join us at 9:30 in front of the courthouse if you are interested.  Hope to see you there or at future outreach events!
