Previously, we informed thousands of jurors of their right to nullify bad laws, reaching 10 of the 11 courthouses around New Hampshire. While we’re very proud of our work, we were only able to consistently cover a handful of courthouses. This January, that changes.

Starting in 2017, we’re announcing our goal to educate every single potential juror in New Hampshire about jury nullification. This will require consistency, tenacity, and solid organization, as well as at least a handful of dedicated activists, since the first day of jury selections will happen simultaneously at seven courthouses across the state. However, we believe we can do it. We also believe that if we can keep up these results month after month, we’ve successfully proven that an efficient activist army can do a whole lot of good with a whole little funding. We’ll then be able to replicate these results in other areas, running circles around well-funded and established advocacy organizations.

Funding proposition

However, we can’t help but run up against one of the biggest challenges facing all-volunteer organizations: activist burnout. The same few people selflessly giving their time for a cause they believe in will eventually get tired of working so hard for nothing, and constantly trying to find new activists to burn through gets exhausting. Because of that, we’ve decided to raise some Bitcoin to help make our activists feel more appreciated and to prevent volunteering from becoming a hardship. By doing this, we make energetic statewide activism campaigns sustainable.

Here’s the breakdown of how funding will work: Activist leaders will show up to a courthouse half an hour before a jury selection, count their pamphlets, distribute them to jurors up until the selection time (possibly slightly over if there are stragglers), count the remaining pamphlets, take a picture, and summarize the operation in a post (including the picture and total number of jurors reached). If they do all this they get a tip. If an activist has to travel under 30 minutes, they’ll get $10. If it’s over 30 minutes, they’ll get $20. This isn’t meant to be pay for work, just a little something to cover gas and say thank you for taking the lead. Other activists are welcome to show up and help out as well.

All funds raised will be distributed to the activists leading the operations. All leftover funds will be applied to next month’s campaign. Once the next month’s upper funding limit has been reached, any surplus funds will be distributed as bonuses to the recently completed month’s activist leaders. While activists are strongly encouraged to receive their earned tips, they may refuse payment, in which case their portion is returned to the fund to be applied to the next month’s campaign or distributed as bonuses.

Please help us fund this important work. Remember, for the equivalent of $10-20 (lunch costs more than that sometimes) you can educate possibly hundreds of jurors about their right to nullify bad laws, potentially saving a life. We will provide specific breakdowns of where the funds are going and why, and keep this post updated with our progress. Donate by sending Bitcoin to the jury nullification fund by either scanning the QR code at the top of the post or copying the address listed immediately below the image (if you don’t have Bitcoin, get some here). You can always track the fund here.

If you can’t donate but want to help out anyway, get involved here and enter “jury nullification” as the type of activism you’re interested in.
